The leaders of our wonderful group recognize the giving spirit we all have and thought bringing that spirit together would strengthen the impact of AFBC in our community. After meeting and discussing options, Allen Community Outreach Kids Summer Food Program was selected for our first charity. Beginning on Wednesday, June 24th, we will contribute kid friendly food that the ACO has listed on their website or monetary donations, for the next 3 weeks, ending on July 8th.

Here is the link to the list: http://www.acocares.org/wp-content/uploads/aco-kids-shopping-list-2015.pdf

This is the list as of today but needs are constant:

Breakfast Items

  • Low Sugar Breakfast Cereal
  • Low Sugar Instant Oatmeal
  • Whole Wheat Bagels
  • Granola Bars
  • Yogurt
  • Fresh Apples, Oranges, Bananas & Grapes
  • Shelf-Stable Almond Milk
  • Low Sugar Juice Boxes

Lunch Items

  • Hot Dogs/Turkey Franks
  • Low Fat Packaged Lunch Meats
  • Whole Grain Sliced Bread
  • Low Sodium Pop-Top Soups
  • Mac & Cheese – Individual Servings
  • Trail Mix – Dried Fruit and Nut
  • Cheese Sticks
  • Peanut Butter/Jelly
  • Carrots
  • Fat Free Pudding Cups
  • Low Sugar Fruit Cups
  • Grocery Gift Cards

The timing is wonderful, and ACO is very excited that they were chosen. The kids who normally receive lunches at school are in desperate need for summer food. It’s difficult for their families to provide the additional food over the summer months. For ACO, the initial donation of summer foods have been distributed and they have the second half of summer yet to go. Whatever we can provide will be so appreciated.
